An exciting year ahead for the Polar Bear Habitat!
Happy New Year everyone! The Canadian Polar Bear Habitat is excited about 2020 and looking forward to a great year. There will be lots of news to share with our fellow Cochranites and, in partnership with the Cochrane Times-Post, we will update you monthly in this column throughout the year.
First of all, we want to express our gratitude to everyone in Cochrane for your continued support. Your passion and support have meant everything, and we can’t thank you enough. Our Board of Directors is looking forward to working with the Town Council and staff in 2020 to transition management of the Habitat from the Town to the Board of Directors.
The Board is finalizing its short-term and long-term business plans, and they include expanding our programming and targeting government grants. Stay tuned for more information about our Volunteer Immersion Program. We are planning on rolling it out in 2020!
The Canadian Polar Bear Habitat launched our new website and brand at the end of 2019 and are now working to increase global recognition. Our intention is to position ourselves as a national polar bear research, education and conservation facility that is proudly located in Cochrane.
To help tackle this extra work, the Board has created a number of subcommittees – including fundraising, programming, and public funding. We hope there will be lots of good news to share over the coming months.
Coming up next, the Habitat will be hosting some awesome fundraising events and we look forward to your participation:
· As part of Carnival, we will once again present the Country Saloon on February 8Annual Country Saloon Dinner & Dance Feb 8th, which we took over last year with the help of Club Amical 50+.
· We will also be taking on the breakfast that was previously hosted by LaRuche. Our first-ever Polar Bear Breakfast will be February 15 from 7am to 12 noon at the Tim Horton Events Centre.
· And of course, Carnival wouldn’t be complete without the Polar Bear Dip, which will be February 15 at Lake Commando.
· Finally, we are selling raffle tickets for a chance to win two tickets to a Montreal Canadiens game at the Bell Centre plus $500. Tickets are $5 each and are available at the Habitat.
More details about all of these events can be found on our Facebook page or here on our website.
In closing, the success of the Habitat depends on the continued support of the community and we are always looking for volunteers. If you want to see how you can help, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for further information or consider an online donation.
